The 2022/23 Premier League season is just around the corner and its Arsenal who’ll kick off the new campaign (preferably in style) as they visit Crystal Palace on Friday night.
The addition of a winter World Cup means another unprecedented campaign beckons and many are finding it difficult to project just how it’ll play out. But that hasn’t stopped the PITA team from predicting exactly how the 2022/23 season will unfold.
We’ve already made our Arsenal picks, but now it’s time to foreshadow the entirety of the upcoming Premier League season.
PITA’s 2022/23 Premier League predictions
So, without further ado, let’s get into our 2022/23 Premier League predictions.
Winners

Are we set for another Liverpool vs Manchester City duel for the title? (Photo by Chris Brunskill/Fantasista/Getty Images)
James Cormack – There’s certainly potential for an outsider to at least threaten the Liverpool and Manchester City duopoly. But, the two behemoths will remain at the top and I think Liverpool could pip the Cityzens to the crown. Neither side will be as dominant as we’ve seen in years past, though.
Adam Schultz – Manchester City. Hard to overlook the champions, especially given that they now have Erling Haaland. It will again be a two-horse race between them and Liverpool but I have City pipping them to the post yet again.
Kenneth Daly – Man City. It is unfortunately a very boring prediction, but I expect Man City to claim their third consecutive Premier League title this season. The quality throughout the division suggests it will be a tough battle at the top and the champions have sold a few big names in the window. However, their squad is still full of talent and any embellishments in the coming weeks should give them a crucial edge.
Mitch Peotter – Man City. Despite a lot of turnover in the squad, the Cityzens signed one of the best young players in the world this summer to add to an already impressive group. Liverpool have also made some changes but I feel they’re at risk of having a longer period to get it right than City will.
Trent Nelson – I think that Arsenal will be a top three team this season, but the top two are still going to be Liverpool and Manchester City. Between those two, I think it’s a toss-up as it’s been over the last several years. On paper, it should be City again but I think that Liverpool will give them another good run by the end of May. It’ll come down to the final week and City will pull it out as they did last year.

James – I’m backing the two north London clubs to join Liverpool and City in the top four, but that could change depending on the business Chelsea conduct before the end of the summer window. They need another goalscorer and two defenders. Both Arsenal and Spurs have brought well this summer, with the former looking excellent in pre-season and the latter boasting Antonio Conte.

Adam – Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham. The glaring omission is Chelsea and after their poor pre-season and lack of incomings, they just might miss out. The top two speak for themselves and as far as Arsenal and Tottenham go, you could flip a coin to see who finishes where.

Kenneth – Man City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal. I anticipate more of the same regarding a title fight, with Liverpool and City vying for pole position, and it would take a dramatic improvement from any of the rest to break the duopoly. The next two spots remain up for grabs but perhaps some smart additions and Conte’s impressive track record will see Tottenham grab third place, while equally shrewd business at Arsenal should be enough to secure fourth.

Mitch – City, Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal. All of these clubs have improved this summer and will look to build on last season. Chelsea is the obvious omission here and I feel they haven’t done enough yet to address key weaknesses in the squad while these four have.

Trent – Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are my top four. Although if Erik ten Hag has it his way, United could snatch fourth place.

James – I’ve got to go for Harry Kane. The Englishman reached remarkable heights under Conte last season, and I think the striker will fancy another year of scoring as many goals as he can after helping Son Heung-min to the Golden Boot last season.

Adam – Mo Salah. The Egyptian will be the main man again at Anfield. With no Sadio Mane to compete with, I expect him to go from strength to strength this season.

Kenneth – Harry Kane. A painful one to forecast, but I think Harry Kane will be the frontrunner for the Golden Boot. The Englishman has performed consistently well for years now and has looked even more dangerous under the guidance of Conte, while his devastating partnership with the equally prolific Son will most likely continue. I just hope his form in front of goal does not contribute to any Sp*rs success.

Mitch – Harry Kane. He was fantastic again last year and the group around him got even better. He’s firmly in his prime and with a good manager and team, maybe this is the year they finally can break their trophy drought. I very much hope I’m wrong about this one.

Trent – Darwin Nunez is going to be a real problem for teams; the Reds have a good one, unfortunately. Between all the big names, including Gabriel Jesus, Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, I’m going to say that either Nunez or Haaland come away with the Golden Boot, although Jesus is a dark horse candidate.

James – Bournemouth, Leeds and Brentford. Bournemouth surely haven’t done enough in the window to avoid the drop, while Brentford’s form pre-Christian Eriksen’s arrival last season can’t be overlooked. They’ll succumb to second-season syndrome, I suspect. The losses of Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips will be too much for Leeds.

Adam – Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Fulham. Leeds were lucky last season to survive and losing Raphinha only makes things worse. First seasons in the top flight are notoriously difficult and for that reason, I have both Forest and Fulham going down.

Kenneth – Everton, Leeds and Bournemouth. They only just survived the ignominy of relegation last season, but the problems at Everton have not gone away and this could be the year they finally go down. Joining them in the Championship will be Leeds as they struggle to cope with the departures of Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips and newly promoted Bournemouth, who will struggle to bridge the quality divide despite automatic promotion last term.

Mitch – Bournemouth, Fulham and Everton. I don’t think any of these teams have done enough this summer to look like they’ll survive. I think Leeds and Forest have done far more to build teams to survive relegation

Trent – Leeds, Bournemouth and Fulham.

Adam – West Ham. The Hammers had a really good campaign last season, finishing seventh. This summer they had added Gianluca Scamacca to help compliment Michael Antonio and have added to their defensive stocks with Nayef Aguerd coming in from Stade Rennais. Moyes has done a great job and I expect them to be pushing again for the top six.

Kenneth – Fulham. The west Londoners are known for their yo-yo nature and may be tipped for another immediate relegation after suffering a similar fate in both 2019 and 2021. However, Marco Silva did a fantastic job in his first year at the helm and has brought the best out of many within his squad including Aleksandar Mitrovic and Jean Michael Seri, so I suspect they could catch people by surprise and steer clear of trouble.

Mitch – Leicester City. I don’t have high hopes for the Foxes this year. It’s almost like they’ve given up on their project. Thus, I’m predicting a surprising bottom-half finish for them.

Trent – Nottingham Forest are going to be more like Brentford than Norwich were last season. We’ll check back to see at the end of the year if that still sounds smart and insightful.

James – How about this for a bold prediction: Julian Alvarez will score more Premier League goals next season than Erling Haaland. I love Alvarez and believe he’ll quickly become a favourite of Guardiola’s.

Adam – Conor Gallagher. We saw what he was capable of last season with Crystal Palace and now he should get his chance for Thomas Tuchel’s side. The midfielder has all the necessary weapons at his disposal to succeed and I expect him to become a star this upcoming campaign.

Kenneth – Cameron Archer. Archer enjoyed a successful loan spell at Preston during the second half of last season and impressed manager Steven Gerrard with a couple of goals on Aston Villa’s pre-season tour of Australia. The presence of Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings may hinder his opportunities next season, but his exploits up front have impressed his coaches and an injury to the often side-lined Ings could provide a pathway into the first team.

Mitch – Jack Grealish. Not exactly a breakout but a prove-it season. He’s had a year in Pep’s system to get it down and after a solid first year, I think he’ll explode output-wise. Haaland’s addition will help a lot and I’m excited to see what he does this year.
