Forwards
Bukayo Saka (RW) – 6/10 – Saka didn’t get much change out of Tyrick Mitchell, but when he did, he failed to deliver the final action in the final third.
Eddie Nketiah (ST) – 8/10 – Outside of those two finishes in the first half, Nketiah was very good. His work to win the penalty was clever, and he was strong between the lines throughout; offering an outlet when his side were reduced to ten.
Gabriel Martinelli (LW) – 5/10 – Spritely, but hesitant in the final third. Withdrawn after Tomiyasu’s dismissal.
Substitutes
Gabriel – 7/10

Takehiro Tomiyasu’s dismissal made life difficult for the visitors, who were fortunate not to concede a penalty after being reduced to ten men. They were forced to defend their box stoutly for the remainder of the contest, and Odsonne Edouard should’ve drawn the hosts level with a header from close range.

Mikel Arteta’s substitutes re-introduced some control to Arsenal’s play in the dying embers of the contest, with Palace struggling to fashion an opening in the seven minutes of stoppage time.

Goalkeeper & Defenders

Aaron Ramsdale (GK) – 6/10 – Secure when tested. Was a shaky parry early on, but this was a pretty serene Ramsdale performance, overall.

Thomas Partey (RB) – 6.5/10 – Palace’s compactness meant he performed a more typical right-back function, and he looked pretty comfortable (apart from when Eberechi Eze drifted over to his flank).

Ben White (CB) – 7.5/10 – A quiet outing until Tomiyasu’s red card. White, like the rest of the Arsenal defence, did an excellent job of limiting the number of big chances created by Palace.

William Saliba (CB) – 8/10 – Loose touch which led to an excellent recovery challenge aside, Saliba was imperious once more. Dominant in the air throughout, the Frenchman didn’t give the hosts a sniff.

Takehiro Tomiyasu (LB) – 4/10 – Harsh second yellow, but first for dawdling at a throw-in was silly.

Midfielders

Declan Rice (CM) – 8.5/10 – This was the performance of an elite controller. Rice was supreme on Monday night, particularly in the opening period. The midfielder escaped pressure superbly in the build-up, while his pass selection and execution were spot-on throughout. His contributions in the final third were also useful.

Martin Odegaard (CM) – 6.5/10 – So cool from the spot. Odegaard flickered his brilliance at times, but it took a little while for the skipper’s influence to show.

Kai Havertz (CM) – 5/10 – The contest bypassed the German international, but I commend his work rate in the closing stages.
