6. Matt Turner
Maybe we should spare a thought for American recruit Matt Turner.
Goalkeeper status and an in-form Aaron Ramsdale mean Turner is yet to make his Premier League bow and has seen playing time restricted exclusively to cup competitions. In those matches, the USMNT star has produced some great saves and perhaps surprised fans with his comfort to build from the back – a concern raised upon his arrival.
Turner also took centre stage for the US national team in Qatar and contributed significantly to the Stars and Stripes’ qualification for the last 16, where they were eliminated by the Netherlands.
It is a real dogfight between the sticks at Arsenal and Ramsdale will be very difficult to usurp, but Turner seems reliable enough to act as deputy.
5. Jakub Kiwior
While he featured in just seven Premier League games, first impressions suggest the club has made another smart purchase here.
Kiwior was a Spezia regular before his January move and starred for Poland at the Qatar World Cup, but he remained largely unknown to English audiences when Arsenal swooped and did not make his full Premier League debut until 2 May despite William Saliba’s absence.
Nevertheless, the 23-year-old made the most of his limited exposure and has shown various desirable qualities, such as composure on the ball and good defensive anticipation, which signal that he will one day become an important first-team member.
Certainly one to keep an eye on.

4. Jorginho

Finally, a transfer across the London divide that worked in our favour.

Although Jorginho only came as a cheap, last-ditch alternative to Moisés Caicedo, he still fitted the bill to operate in the Arsenal engine room and has often performed admirably in Thomas Partey’s absence.

The former Chelsea man brought vast experience to a young dressing room and, following a tough debut away to Everton, delivered at some key moments to keep our championship ambitions alive, including a fine display in the home match against Man City and his late ‘goal’ at Villa Park.

He offers little more than rotation but is at least fortunate with injury, and that could prove vital over the coming months.

3. Gabriel Jesus

https://twitter.com/afcstuff/status/1676144159890067456

He might have ranked higher only for a lengthy injury layoff.

After Aubameyang and Lacazette had left for new pastures, speculation was rife about who would replace them and the arrival of Gabriel Jesus was greeted with soaring expectations. To his credit, the Brazil international mostly lived up to the hype and made a blistering start to life at Arsenal, with his tenacity and boundless energy bringing our press to new levels.

Unfortunately, knee problems greatly limited his involvement in the post-World Cup period and he suffered from the malaise that swept through the team during the final run-in, which ultimately cost us the title.

His debut campaign initially promised so much more, but perhaps pre-season will allow Jesus to build up fitness and soon get back to his best.

2. Leandro Trossard

One goal, many assists and all for the bargain price of £27m: Leandro Trossard has ticked every box since his January switch.

Swift integration was a little unexpected after reports emerged that the Belgian star had shown a “poor attitude” in training and fallen out with Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi – trademarks which have recently spelt the end of some high-profile Arsenal careers.

However, assurances from his assistant and former Genk coach ‘AirPod Albert’ convinced Arteta to strike a deal with the Seagulls, and 11 goal contributions in 20 games (including a historic display against Fulham) suggest it was a good decision.

Zinchenko made a huge impact in his first year at Arsenal. Just ask Kieran Tierney.

Called upon somewhat infrequently by Guardiola, the 26-year-old quickly established himself as first choice in north London and soon became a fan favourite. His role as an inverted fullback has afforded the team greater control in possession and he can execute sublime passes between the lines to open up our attack, all while showing an incredible passion that epitomises the restored fan/squad connection.

He may “not be a leader” for some, but Zinchenko performs consistently well in Arsenal colours and we will hope for more of the same next season.
<!—pageview_candidate—>">
