The September international break is upon us, with several Gunners participating in their nation’s fixtures over the next two weeks.
Arsenal have started the season superbly, losing just one game in all competitions and sitting top of the Premier League table. Domestic football takes a break as the UEFA Nations League takes centre stage in Europe.
With several Arsenal stars taking part, each has their little battle or chance to make a name for themselves over the next fortnight.
3 Arsenal things to watch over the September international break
Here are three things to look out for over the international break.
1. Can Aaron Ramsdale become England’s number 1?
For many, it is a two-way battle between Ramsdale and Everton stop-stopper Jordan Pickford for number one status in the Three Lions squad.
With Pickford not picked due to injury, Ramsdale has been gifted a huge opportunity to put down a marker and convince Gareth Southgate he’s worth considering for Qatar. Mikel Arteta certainly believes that his goalkeeper deserves to be England’s number one at the World Cup.
Ramsdale, for the most part this season, has been a model of consistency – aside from the odd heart-in-your-mouth moment. His distribution by foot is his most significant attribute and could be utilised by Southgate if he chooses to.
The new two weeks are pivotal for Ramsdale to prove he deserves to be in the World Cup squad and perhaps earn a starting berth in the Middle East.

<h2>2. Thomas Partey’s fitness</h2>
<p>Probably the most significant thing to watch. We all know how vital Partey is to Mikel Arteta’s side as he makes the team purr like no one else.</p>
<p>Given that he is coming back from an injury that saw him miss a few games, Arsenal will be wary of his game time over the international break. Partey played the full 90 minutes for the Gunners in their <a title="Brentford 0-3 Arsenal: 3 talking points from a resounding away win" href=https://paininthearsenal.com/2022/09/20/3-arsenal-things-watch-international-break/"https://paininthearsenal.com/2022/09/19/brentford-0-3-arsenal-3-talking-points-resounding-win/" rel="">3-0 win over Brentford</a>, and we ideally do not want him playing full games, given the seriously condensed schedule in October.</p>

<p>We have seen in years past our star players get injured on international duty, and it ruined our season. This can’t happen again, and all Arsenal fans will have their fingers, toes and everything else crossed that Partey escapes unscathed.</p>

<h2>3. Can William Saliba become a starter for France?</h2>
<p>Saliba has perhaps been the best Arsenal defender and by some way this season. He has bolstered an improving Gunners defence and now it’s time for him to force his way into France’s starting XI.</p>
<p>Les Bleus are blessed with an array of centre-back talent and picking a pairing will be no easy task for Didier Deschamps. Saliba, though, has arguably been the most impressive performer out of Deschamps’ current options this season.</p>

<p>Saliba will likely see game time over the September break, and it presents a chance for him to stake a claim for a starting role at the World Cup. Given how he has started for Arsenal this season, you would not put it past him.</p><!—pageview_candidate—>">
