2. Arsenal’s left-sided attack
Gabriel Martinelli was influential in Arsenal’s 3-2 victory over Liverpool at the Emirates earlier this season, scoring the opening goal in the first minute and assisting Bukayo Saka’s goal right before half-time. Trent Alexander-Arnold simply had no answer for him and was subbed for the more defensive Joe Gomez at half-time as a result.
Jurgen Klopp may elect for the latter again in this match, as he did against Chelsea on Tuesday, in an attempt to help keep Martinelli and Leandro Trossard or Gabriel Jesus in check. Doing so would significantly hamper Liverpool’s attack from the right-back position, however.
If the German manager elects to start Alexander-Arnold, look for Arsenal to try to target his side as they did in the first half of their meeting earlier this season. He does not have the pace to keep up with Martinelli on the counter-attack, and this may prove to be the difference in the game once again.

Premier League home games so far this season, and have a better home goal differential (+25) than Arsenal (+24). While they have struggled in between, their last three Premier League matches include 2-0 defeats of Everton and Wolves, as well as the 7-0 smashing of Manchester United. Furthermore, they haven’t conceded a goal in a Premier League match at Anfield this calendar year.

We all know of Arsenal’s struggles at Anfield in recent times. Arsenal have not won a Premier League match at Anfield since <a href=https://paininthearsenal.com/2023/04/07/3-things-to-look-for-as-arsenal-travel-to-anfield/2/"https://paininthearsenal.com/2023/04/06/last-time-arsenal-won-anfield/">September 2012. While we are in a much better position to grab three points this go-around than in previous years, do not expect this game to be easy in any way. Liverpool are still one of the top sides in the world when playing at Anfield, and Arsenal will have to earn everything they can get from the match.

3. Arsenal’s ability to deal with adversity

Every Arsenal fan knows that the team this year just feels different. Whereas in previous seasons we might see our squad shy away from big matches, this season Arsenal have taken their game to whoever and wherever they play.

Whereas previous Arsenal sides might have no answer after going down, we now see a side that consistently has a response after conceding.

It was just last season that saw Arsenal play scared in a 4-0 defeat at Anfield, highlighted by Albert Sambi Lokonga looking shaken while misplaying multiple passes at the beginning of the second half before being subbed off. I think this Arsenal side knows they are good enough to win at Anfield, and will play like it regardless of where the momentum is in the game.

There will likely be waves of play where Liverpool are able to impose their game, but this Arsenal group should be much better prepared to deal with it than what we’ve seen in the past.
<!—pageview_candidate—>">
