While the transfer window thus far has largely been defined by exciting, game-changing incomings, the attention is now shifting to outgoings. While the latter is not as exciting, it is only by securing sales that the rebuild can continue.
Bernd Leno’s move has been made official, with the German keeper making the short trip across London to Craven Cottage, eyes will be on the next player out. Given how bloated the squad is, there are several candidates for players who might leave London in the next few weeks.
3 outgoings for Arsenal to complete after Bernd Leno sale
Here are three outgoings that should take priority as Arsenal look to complete sales after Leno’s transfer.
3. Lucas Torreira

Once touted as the next N’Golo Kante (God, we were optimistic), Lucas Torreira’s stock has dropped precipitously. Fans may have thought Mikel Arteta’s appointment would have led to the Uruguayan’s success. Unfortunately, that has not been the case.
The player’s off-the-field issues led to his feelings of being unsettled and the chaos of the latter stages of Unai Emery’s reign certainly did not help. Arteta deployed Torreira as a holding midfielder but his technical level was deemed to be lacking.
A couple of loan moves later, it seems as if Torreira is finally on his way out permanently. His value has continued to drop despite his most recent season at Fiorentina. Although he was impressive in Italy, winning multiple Player of the Month awards, clubs are willing to let an increasingly desperate Arsenal become even more so.
Such is the case that Galatasaray is throwing a mere £7.5m at the club with the London outfit poised to accept the offer. However, continuous outgoings in exchange for paltry fees are not sustainable. Edu will be under pressure to start making more lucrative sales as more of the squad falls under his (and Arteta’s) umbrella.

Out of the players on this list, Pablo Mari is arguably the only one with a clear role to play in the squad. Gabriel was immense last season and is poised for another brilliant campaign. After the Brazilian, however, there is remarkably little to fit Arteta’s mould.

The manager prefers balance in the squad, with left-footed defenders playing on the left side. With Mari the only other left-footed centre-back, he could assimilate back into the team as Gabriel’s backup. Despite this clear opening, Mari is so poor that he must be sold.

Mari boasts a towering stature but is slow and unathletic. He does not read the game well and is simply not good enough, even as a backup. Ship him out and continue the outgoings.

This outgoing will have fans wistfully remembering days gone by. It seems only yesterday that Hector Bellerin was making his debut for the club, with all his youth and short hair on display. After a decade at the club, the Spaniard is destined for greener grasses.

Although his level dropped after experiencing injury after injury, there is not a shadow of a doubt that Bellerin has been an excellent servant to the club. His leadership on the pitch and activism off it have endeared him to fans and he will be remembered in a positive light.

The club and the player seem to have come to a natural parting of ways. With Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White the starting and backup right backs, respectively, and Cedric serving as a third-choice, Bellerin is surplus to requirements. He also rediscovered the joy of playing in Spain, for the club his family has supported for years.

This transfer may be the easiest to get done, with the Spaniard rumoured to be willing to pay part of his own salary to move on. This outgoing is an amicable one, with love shared between both fans and player. Good luck.

The importance of sales cannot be overstated. Arsenal took a bloated squad to America and the excess must be trimmed. Moving forward, Edu will need to start selling players as opposed to paying them to leave. Contract renewals and agreements must be completed more shrewdly as the rebuild continues.
<!—pageview_candidate—>">
