3. Emile Smith Rowe
Reports emerged at the end of the season that Arsenal want to retain Smith Rowe this summer despite his barely featuring throughout 2022/23.
The crafty creative midfielder underwent groin surgery last September and returned at the start of 2023. During the second half of the season, however, he failed to notch a single start and it appeared as if Mikel Arteta had lost faith in the player who, some would argue, saved his job.
Despite the recent reports, I wouldn’t be surprised if Arsenal entertained offers for Smith Rowe. If Brighton raise the possibility of including the Englishman in any deal for Caicedo, I think Arsenal would be wise to listen.
The Ecuadorian international has transformative potential in north London.

The Secret Scout, believes that the Seagulls could lower their £100m valuation of Caicedo should an interested club include a player of interest in the deal.

4 players Arsenal could use in potential Moises Caicedo deal

So, we’ve racked our brains and thought of four players Arsenal could include in a part-exchange deal that’d see Caicedo end up at the Emirates this summer.

1. Sambi Lokonga

Lokonga was signed in 2021 as a long-term project, but the Belgian midfielder hasn’t progressed as the club would like, and it’s hard to believe that he’ll be involved in the club’s midfield refresh.

After once again struggling for minutes during the first half of the season, Lokonga earned a January loan to Crystal Palace and initially showed promise under Patrick Vieira. However, his minutes dwindled significantly after Roy Hodgson returned to the helm, and his Arsenal career has already reached a crossroads.

The 23-year-old is undoubtedly talented and is a fine passer of the ball, but he leaves plenty to be desired from a defensive perspective. He lacks awareness and is positionally sub-par. However, he may be of interest to Brighton considering that they’ll be losing a midfielder in Caicedo. Roberto De Zerbi will undoubtedly appreciate Lokonga’s passing range.

2. Folarin Balogun

With <a title="Can Arsenal win the Premier League title with Gabriel Jesus?" href=https://paininthearsenal.com/2023/06/05/4-players-arsenal-use-potential-caicedo-deal/3/"https://paininthearsenal.com/2023/05/26/can-arsenal-win-premier-league-title-gabriel-jesus/" rel="">Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah on the club’s books, Arsenal will likely sell Balogun this summer off the back of his excellent season in Ligue 1 with Reims.

Balogun, who recently committed to the USMNT, proved a sensation during his loan spell and scored 21 league goals in 37 games.

Arsenal are believed to be happy to let Balogun depart this summer, and the club will be looking to garner around £35m/£40m for his sale. Such a valuation would knock a significant amount off Caicedo’s fee, but Brighton’s current options up top, which include Evan Ferguson, Danny Welbeck, and Deniz Undav, means it’s not a position of need.

Balogun is the sort of player the Seagulls appreciate, but it seems unlikely that he’d be part of any exchange, although it would help Arsenal out tremendously from a monetary POV.

4. Marquinhos

There are several possibilities for a part-exchange deal, but Pervis Estupinan’s presence means Brighton are unlikely to be interested in Kieran Tierney, Reiss Nelson is either extending his contract or departing on a free, while Nicolas Pepe’s time in north London will surely spook the savvy Seagulls.

Thus, an out-the-box possibility for Brighton is Marquinhos, whom Arsenal signed from Brazil last summer. The winger, however, failed to register a Premier League start after an impressive Europa League debut and his loan spell at Norwich during the second half of the season was plagued by inconsistency.

The Brazilian is raw, but there is something there. Although, the vast majority will question whether he’s even close to being ready to compete with the likes of Nelson, Leandro Trossard and, of course, Bukayo Saka for minutes.

Another loan is inevitable for Marquinhos this summer, but maybe, just maybe, Brighton see something in him. The Seagulls love an unassuming South American.
<!—pageview_candidate—>">
